Introduction
WekPlug ("we," "our," or "the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your personal information when you use our platform. This Privacy Policy complies with the Data Protection Act No. 3 of 2021 of Zambia and other applicable laws.
Data Protection & Privacy
We collect the minimum information needed to verify identity, process payments, provide job matching, and keep the platform safe. NRC numbers and identity documents are stored securely and are visible only to WekPlug administrators for verification and compliance. We never sell your personal data. Your phone number is only revealed where needed for an accepted job flow. You may request account deletion, subject to records we must retain by law, finance, safety, dispute, or fraud-prevention obligations.
1. Information We Collect
Personal information: full name, phone number, profile photos, date of birth, city, and area. Worker verification data: government-issued ID photos, real-time selfie, Police Clearance Certificate, professional certificates, credentials, and work proof where applicable. Location data: precise GPS location for job matching, distance calculation, active-job tracking, arrival checks, city and area matching, and worker en-route tracking during active jobs. Job and transaction data: job descriptions, prices, offers, secure payment records, job acceptance and completion status, messages, ratings, reviews, proof photos, earnings, payout records, commission records, and support history. Device information: device type, operating system, manufacturer, model, app version, usage statistics, IP address, and network information.
2. Legal Basis for Processing
We process personal data based on user consent, contractual necessity, legal obligations, and legitimate interests. Consent covers account creation, optional communications, and location tracking during active jobs. Contractual necessity covers job matching, communication, secure payment handling, and service delivery. Legal obligations include tax, financial, compliance, and lawful authority requests. Legitimate interests include platform security, fraud prevention, dispute handling, service improvement, analytics, and weighted discovery ranking based on ratings, completion rates, location recency, and reliability signals.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to create and manage accounts, verify worker identities and credentials, match clients with nearby workers, process secure job payments, track job status, send notifications, enable messaging, prevent fraud and abuse, resolve disputes, improve the platform, support company/team management, and manage worker availability, earnings, and assignments.
4. Location Services
Location data is used to show nearby job opportunities, help clients find workers, calculate distance and estimated arrival context, enable real-time tracking during active jobs, and confirm arrival. Worker background location is only used during active jobs for en-route tracking and client visibility. You can disable location services, but this limits key platform functionality. Location tracking stops when jobs are completed or when required location permissions/services are turned off.
5. Information Sharing
With other users: names, photos, ratings, job-related messages, reviews, and active-job location where needed for service delivery. With service providers: payment processors and mobile money providers, Google Maps, Firebase, cloud messaging, hosting, storage, support, and infrastructure tools needed to run the platform. With administrators: job payment status, verification documents, disputes, reports, completion records, and account safety information. Legal disclosure may occur where required by law, lawful authority request, court process, fraud prevention, or safety need. We do not sell personal data or share sensitive documents for advertising.
6. Data Storage and Security
Data is stored using secure cloud infrastructure. Verification documents and sensitive records are protected with access controls. Payments are processed through secure payment providers; WekPlug does not store Mobile Money PINs, bank card numbers, or wallet credentials. We use encryption, secure authentication, access controls, monitoring, and reasonable technical and organizational security measures. No internet system is 100% secure, so users should protect their account credentials.
7. Payment, Commission, and Ledger Data
For secured jobs, we track the agreed amount, provider, transaction reference, platform fee, net payout, completion status, and payout history. Workers and admins can view relevant earnings and payout records. For cash jobs, WekPlug maintains a virtual ledger to track platform commission obligations, debt recovery history, and wallet balances. This data is used for financial reconciliation, platform fee recovery, and automated debt-limit enforcement. Service history for car repair may be stored to support car health dashboards and resale-value reports.
8. Your Rights and Choices
Under Zambian data protection law, you may request access to your personal data, correction of inaccurate data, deletion where applicable, withdrawal of optional consent, and information about retained records. You can manage profile information, contact details, notification preferences, and location permissions. Disabling location may prevent core features from working correctly. To exercise your rights, contact privacy@wekplug.com or use in-app support.
9. Fraud Prevention and Re-Registration Controls
To protect users and the platform, WekPlug may use phone numbers, NRC/passport identifiers, account history, device and network signals, IP address patterns, location patterns, and behavioral signals to detect fraud, prevent banned users from re-registering, and enforce suspensions or bans. Some identifiers may be hashed or encrypted. We do not use facial recognition, fingerprint scanning, or biometric matching for re-registration prevention. Profile photos and ID images are used for human verification and safety review.
10. Account Deletion and Retention
When you request account deletion, personal profile data, contact information, identity images, device tokens, and linked usage data are deleted or anonymized where possible. Some data must be retained: payment and commission records may be retained for 7 years; dispute and complaint records may be retained for 7 years; fraud and abuse prevention markers may be retained for 3-5 years; and legal-hold records may be retained as required. Retained data is not used for marketing and is accessed only for legal, financial, security, dispute, or compliance purposes.
12. Children's Privacy
WekPlug is not intended for users under 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If we discover that a minor has created an account, we will delete it.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Significant changes may be communicated through in-app notifications, SMS alerts, or an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of WekPlug after changes means you accept the updated policy.
14. Contact Us
For privacy questions, concerns, or requests, contact privacy@wekplug.com or use the in-app support/help feature. We aim to respond to privacy inquiries within 7 business days.
15. Zambian Data Protection Compliance
WekPlug operates in Zambia and is designed to comply with the Data Protection Act No. 3 of 2021, Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act No. 2 of 2021, Electronic Communications and Transactions Act No. 4 of 2021, and other applicable Zambian laws.
